Art walk
An Old Town art walk
Eleven stops over about 2.5 kilometres: three museums, six galleries that sell original work, and Charles Bridge. Allow two hours at a gallery-goer's pace. It works best on a weekday afternoon, when every stop is open.
The route
Galerie Rudolfinum
Start at the riverside concert hall. The gallery wing shows Czech and international contemporary art in temporary exhibitions. Look at what is on before you go in; it changes every few months.
Museum of Decorative Arts (UPM)
Across the street: glass, ceramics, furniture, posters and photography. If Bohemian glass is on your list, this is where to see the best of it before you shop.
Galerie La Femme
Five minutes east through the old Jewish quarter. Contemporary Czech painting that comes directly from the artists or their heirs.
DSC Gallery
Cross Pařížská and continue to Dlouhá, just off the Old Town Square. One of the city's serious contemporary galleries. Weekday afternoons only.
House of the Black Madonna
Walk through the square and along Celetná. This 1912 building by Josef Gočár is one of the world's few Cubist houses, with a museum of Czech Cubism upstairs.
Old Town Square and the House at the Stone Bell
Back on the square, the Gothic House at the Stone Bell is a Prague City Gallery venue, open during its exhibitions (the next opens on 3 December 2026). Even between shows, look at its 14th-century façade.
Inter Art Gallery GOR
South-west from the square, past the Astronomical Clock, into Michalská. Colourful figurative painting by fifteen represented artists.
Gallery Art 11
A few doors further. Prague views, figurative oils and hand-printed Prague etchings by a small group of established artists.
ART MASTER Gallery (Inmodern)
Through the lanes towards the river. Eastern European painting and sculpture, with prices shown online. Hours are not published, so check ahead.
Charles Bridge
The licensed artists' stalls line the bridge. A good place to buy a small watercolour or drawing from the person who painted it.
D-Art Gallery
Finish across the bridge: turn left at the bottom of the bridge tower. Oil paintings, many of Prague, in a gallery a minute from the river.
Detours
- South, towards Národní: Galerie Kodl at Národní 7 and Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář at Mikulandská 7, for 19th- and 20th-century Czech art. Ten minutes from Michalská.
- Up from the bridge, in Malá Strana: Satija Gallery on Saská street by the bridge, Galerie Jakubská on Thunovská, and Ethera on Tržiště, below the Castle. The Malá Strana section has the details.
